Diversity as a Strength
As we become more of a global society, there are more and more identifiable segments of our society. As we work to understand these various segments, certain prejudices and animosities arise, driving us apart rather than together. This dynamic has less to do with the antiquated trait theory and more to do with a diversity of thoughts, ways of thinking, experiences, and contribution to the team’s mission. It is also true that diversity simply for the sake of diversity is not something that necessarily moves the team toward its vision. The sustained leader seeks diversity among those unique traits that complement the other abilities represented on the team. Because ultimately, we are all a minority of one.
